Even though the U.S. is the second largest democracy in the world, India being the first, it is considered rare, compared to other systems in the world. The U.S. political system is made up of many components and there are several factors the contributed to what the U.S. political system is today. Such as, where the foundations of the U.S. government came from, the American idea of government, the characteristics of American society and political culture, and the values and principles of American democracy. The founding fathers were wise and had great experience in politics and government, however they could not produce ideas for a political system of a country by just using their wisdom and experience. The founding fathers needed to look at history to find some answers. One aspect that the founding fathers explored was the government systems of ancient Greece and Rome. Aristotle and the Greeks were the first to propose the idea of natural law. The system of direct, rather than representative democracy, was developed in Athens, Greece. In Athens, citizens directly governed themselves. They were allowed to participate in debates, voting, and law-making. Thin Layer Chromatography Lab Report Sample

Thin Layer Chromatography Lab Report Paper Chromatography works on the principle that different impounds will have different solubility and adsorption to the two different phases between which are to be partitioned. Thin Layer Chromatography (TTL) is a solid-liquid technique. The mixture is observed when it is in two different phase; a solid (stationary phase) and a liquid (moving phase). Thin Layer Chromatography (TTL) is a technique which is sensitive, cheap and fast. A thin layer chromatograph plate is used to identify drug component under LIVE. It is used to support the identity of a compound in a mixture when the Roof a compound is compared with the RFC of a known compound. Results Sample I Distance between start line and spot I Distance between start line and front line I RFC I Aspirin | 3. 1 CM 3. CM | 0. 912 | Caffeine | 0. 7 CM | 3. 4 CM | 0. 206 | Unknown XSL)Unknown Component 12)Unknown Component 2 | 1)3. 1 cam)O. 7 cam 1)3. 4 cam)3. 4 CM | | RFC -distance traveled by the substance /distance traveled by the solvent front Discussion By examining the functional groups of the analgesic drug components, the relative strength of their polarities can be determined. For example, if a compound contains carboxylic acid, alcohol or amine functional groups, it should be very polar. If a compound contains ketene, allayed, ester, amide, or ether functional groups, it should be polar. Lastly, if a compound contains methyl or alkyl substituted functional groups, it should be non-polar. Thus, since caffeine has an amine and amide group, its relative polarity is the highest in comparison to the other three ingredients. By understanding the relative polarities of the analgesic drugs, one could determine how the compounds will behave during the TTL separation. The stationary phase, silica gel in this experiment, is more polar, causing more polar components of a mixture to be more attracted to it. We will write a custom essay sample on Thin Layer Chromatography Lab Report specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now We will write a custom essay sample on Thin Layer Chromatography Lab Report specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer We will write a custom essay sample on Thin Layer Chromatography Lab Report specifically for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Hire Writer Thus, the more polar components will move more slowly and the less polar components will move faster on the TTL plates, having the highest RFC values. That is why in this particular experiment, caffeine, the most polar compound, has the smallest RFC value of 0. 206 ; aspirin which is less polar than caffeine, has RFC value of 0. 912. Conclusion In conclusion thin layer chromatography is a useful technique when trying to identify compounds and see how they separate. It is also a useful tool to see how polar or monopole a compound is. Overall the lab was very successful and the results that were found were solid.

Services Marketing

Services Marketing Australian Telecommunications Company has continued to expand to address the demands of the market. It has remained a key player in the country’s economic growth, having generated close to $37 billion in 2008 and $98 billion revenue in 2009. The industry has over five hundred thousand employees across the country, working in various capacities (IBISWorld, 2011).Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Services Marketing specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More It has arguably been considered as a stimulant for employment in almost every sector of Australian economy. It has local and international companies which contribute to this tremendous global recognition. Among these are Optus and Vodafone which are considered as key players in the market. This paper gives a critique of the performance of these companies based on their weaknesses and threats with reference to the entire telecommunications industry in Australia. Vod afone is a UK-owned company and the leading telecommunications company around the world operating in more than twenty five countries including Australia. Vodafone Australia is the third largest Telecommunications Company in Australia, behind the giants Telstra and Optus. The company runs a GSM mobile network which is approximated to cover 92% of Australian market (Vodafone, 2011). It also boasts of a Globalster satellite which enables it to cover the entire population. Even as the company continues to thrive in an ever-expanding economy and market, it has had its fair share of weaknesses and threats triggered by intertwined factors in the telecommunications market. Vodafone Australia has experienced one of the worst network problems in the Australian market. Towards the end of 2010, the company registered pitiable quality in its calls, data speed, SMS reliability and voicemail services. It was faced with a class action suit for demonstrating incompetence in serving Australian people . To maintain its business reputation, the company responded by blaming customers for using faulty software on their handsets and use of Smartphones (Vodafone, 2011). Although Vodafone CEO offered an apology, the interruption saw several customers terminate their contracts with the company to seek better services.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Through mergers and acquisitions, the company has not realized organic growth. As a result, the company has a stable customer base at the expense of proper management of its subsidiaries (Vodafone, 2011). With its operational structure centered in UK, Vodafone Australia has failed to address needs of the market allowing effective competition from smaller companies. Moreover, Vodafone Australia continues to experience severa l threats as permitted by market trends and its ability to effectively serve Australians. Competition from major players and upcoming companies is seen as a major threat for the company. Telstra which is the leading player in the market, previously possessed by the government runs most of the copper network, offering landline, broadband and mobile services (Vodafone, 2011). Immense global penetration of internet companies further threatens Vodafone’s ability to penetrate the market in future. It is important to note that though saturated, the market still offers opportunities in terms of the aging population and changing needs for customers. Through strategic plans like simple phones and friendly pricing plans, the company stands a chance of favorably competing in market (IBISWorld, 2011). On the other hand, Optus is ranked second in Australian telecommunications market and is owned by Singapore Telecommunications Company. Headquartered in Sydney, Optus has retained SingTel s ervices and products like Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile Australia, Uecomm and Alphawest (Optus, 2011). In serving its customers, the company runs its own network infrastructure together with the use of other companies’ services like Telstra Wholesale. It has two channels of service delivery where it directly serves customers in the market and as a wholesale agent for smaller companies.Advertising We will write a custom assessment sample on Services Marketing specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The company also provides internet services through dial-up and broadband services. It mainly serves the government, business owners and residents of Australia. Like other players in the Australian telecommunications market, the company has weaknesses and continues to experience threats from a wide range of areas. Being owned by Singapore Telecommunications Company which has concentrated its operation in Australia, Optus is exposed to high co mpetition from local players and other bigger players in the market. In addition, Optus is faced with management issues manifested through labor strikes experienced before (Optus, 2011). This affects its reputation in maintaining a competitive advantage and customer base. Lastly, service delivery has not been up to date with customers complaining of low network connection speed and Cable TV services. Even though the company is ranked second in Australian telecommunications industry, it faces stiff competition from Telstra and Vodafone among other key players and upcoming companies. It therefore suffices to mention competition as the company’s major threat. Nevertheless, Optus prides on a number of opportunities in the telecommunications industry. With ever-changing technology, the company has a chance to expand its service and product delivery in order to address the needs of its young customers. It also plans to increase its customer base through TV mobile services by the en d of 2012 by use of FetchTV (Optus, 2011). Additionally, the company seeks to access government license to offer provisional satellite services that will cover Australian Broadband Network. This will win new customers across the country including remote regions which are not well covered by its competitors. In general, a survey of Australian telecommunications market indicates various viewpoints with regard to the performance of companies like Vodafone and Optus. It is evident that the two companies have weaknesses which have continued to affect their performances. Nevertheless, there are countless opportunities to be utilized in maintaining competitive advantage.Advertising Looking for assessment on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Gender and Social Space Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Gender and Social Space - Essay Example In addition to this, the three motility factors are considered; ambiguous transcendence, inhibited intentionality and a discontinuous unity (Young, 1990), with respect to the feminine gender is also discussed. The effect is also seen in the major work that women and men undertake. Women inherently have or at least they think they have a weaker body. More often this is written down as the weaker sex. This idea sinks in their mind and is reflected when ever they do a job that is physically challenging. Let it be to lift a heavy object or to move something heavy. The tendency is to maintain this tendency of the women to maintain the weakness attitude in their body (Alphonso Lingis, 1994). This idea is reflected when ever they move in the social space. Whether it is to get their luggage out of their cars or to change tires in their cars, they look for help from more 'able' men. This attitude of a physiological disadvantage is reflected in every one of the activities of the women. As a matter of fact, the same is also reflected in the activities that are carried out by men too. They treat women as if they are incapable of doing even the simplest of the jobs. Whether it is a question of lifting the kid while they are on a long walk or it is to check whether the depth of the pool is good enough for a dive if it is not announced; the risk is always taken by the men. This tendency to being risk averse is not some thing new to the women. They consistently stay out of risk. For instance, they do not try to be heroic with a robber normally. They expect the male to be the chauvinistic hero who will save the women in need. This is also a physiological condition where the women tend to show reluctance in shouldering responsibilities (Anton Mischewski, 2005). On most occasions, one would also notice that the women tend to display a personal safety measure that is normally higher than what men do. May be this also could be attributed to the risk averseness that the women generally display (Aileen Moreton-Robinson, 2000). But then, it is also personal safety motivation that is more prominent and the tendency to save their skin rather than to get themselves hurt. This is not present in the men; even if present it is so only for a lesser extent. Psychological Activities Most of the activities of the women and men are controlled by the tendencies created and cultured in their mind. This seems to reflect the paternal traits of our society much more than the maternal traits. The effect of the male supremacy is ingrained in the thought process of not just the male but also the female in our society (Jones HG & Dr Kirkman M, (eds.), 2007). This reflects heavily in everything that is written and said about the female and male behavior. Therefore, this also cultivates the same behavior in both the genders. The tendency to accept the male superiority with out question is common place among women as much as it is with men. Whether it is to provide the right action while playing a game and provide the physiological activity that is needed to the job or it is for the people to provide mathematical or scientific reasoning for a thought process, the way the women think is substantially different from what the male does. In most of the cases, the woman generally under estimates her capabilities

IP2 Fortun 55 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

IP2 Fortun 55 - Essay Example The age of technology and innovation has imposed upon the employees and organizations extreme competition and hard work to keep with their sustenance. In such a competitive and rigid environment, it is the utmost responsibility of the organizations to keep their employees motivated and maintained through providing them the basic necessities, comfort and satisfaction on the job. This is done through different wellness programs which many companies introduce in order to keep w well-fed and motivated human resource base. Corporate Wellness Programs The corporate wellness programs, commonly known as workplace wellness programs, are sort of motivational programs which are the blend of various environmental, educational and organizational activities. These activities are normally formulated to assist the behavior and attitude which is favorable and encouraging towards the health of the organization’s employees. They are involved in these programs which comprise of health coaching, f itness programs, health education through holding fairs, medical screenings and the various educational programs which are designed with sophistication in order to bring a change in the behaviors and attitudes of the employees. This change is most likely to contribute towards the achievement of better employee health, and a drastic reduction in the possible risks linked to the health of employees. Thus, the basic goal accomplished through the designing and implementation of the wellness programs is the attainment of better health of the employees. According to a recent study presented by the US Department of Health and Human Services, it was indicated that the workplaces which offer the on-site exercise programs to their employees as a component of their wellness programs, experienced a decline from 75 % to 55% in their healthcare costs and the employees’ short-term leaves were also lowered from 38% to 32% , ultimately leading to a rise in the productivity of an average emplo yee from 50% to 52% (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2000). Thus, such wellness programs contribute big time to the health of the employees as well as the organization. Development of an Effective Wellness Program The wellness programs have become the need of time and the basic necessity which should be provided by the organization to all its employees. Here, the Fortune 55 firm is working with an estimated number of 500 employees, who are all busy working hard in order to steer the organization towards achieving its goals. Though, the old wellness program at the company was effective too, however, with the changing needs of the age and the shifting demands of employees, a newer and more effective wellness program should be developed which is capable of delivering further benefits to the employees. Since, the corporate wellness programs are a blend of the healthcare, medical and educational activities, the new plan of the Fortune 500 will follow a more sophisticated mi xture in the program. The elements of the brand new effective wellness program, to be developed and introduced, will include the following elements: Lifestyle Improvement Stress Management Online health coaching Appraisals and assessments of health associated risks Health content programs Employees’ mental health and well being These were the elements which already existed in the company’
